High Speed Internet Broadband: CABLE MODEM SERVICE

The cable tv high speed modem service is available in Craig, Alaska via Craig Cable TV system where available.

Our Internet Broadband commenced service on February 1st, 2008 via our cable modem service. Our system operates from the two way satellite feed providing high speed broadband service to Craig.

The system is dedicated to Craig and only to Craig, it is not fed from the public satellite, it is a private satellite piping system so it does not share the broadband with any other providers or communities.

Our system is monitored 24/7 via our local monitoring system, and the satellite Uplink (NOC) National Operation Center people in state of Utah watching our satellite system, and we also watches the system ourselves.
In our cable tv system, we use the top of the line equipment including the cable modem.
Our system is (Voip) Voice Over Internet Protocol meaning that our system is broadband telephone compatiable and is ready for digital broadband telephone service.
Also our broadband system been tested & proven to provide Television broadband for viewing from your computer to watch regular television from any Networks.

WE ARE PROHIBITED UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES CANNOT SELL THE CABLE MODEM SERVICE TO A NON-CABLE TV CUSTOMER AS A STAND ALONE SERVICE.

RESIDENTIAL CUSTOMER:
Permanent Customers: If the cable tv service is hooked up with the Internet service then the Interent installation fee is waived.
If the cable tv customer currently has cable tv service and wanted the cable modem service then the Internet Installation fee is $25.00.
there are a required $50.00 deposit for the cable modem .


RESIDENTIAL MONTHLY SERVICE RATES:
256K Speed: $30.00 up to 2GIG Capacity
512K Speed: $50.00 up to 3 GIG Capacity.
768K Speed: $75.00 up to 3 GIG Capacity.
1024K Speed: $100.00 up to 6 GIG Capacity.

Please note that if you exceed the maximum monthly allowance there will be an excess charge of $.20 cent per MB or $20.00 per GIG, We can cap your service not to exceed the maximum monthly allowance by request.

SEASONAL CUSTOMER:
Seasonal Customer:If the cable tv service is hooked up with the Internet service then the Interent installation fee is waived.
If the seasonal customer currently has cable tv service and wanted the cable modem service then the installation fee is $25.00.

All e-mail accounts is available to all broadband customers, most of our customers already have their own account elsewhere but it is available by requesting for the CraigCableTV.NET E-Mail account. What is a cable modem?

Traditional dial-up modems provide online access through the public telephone network at up to 56,000 bits per second (kbps). The cable modem then connects to your PC through a standard Ethernet interface.

How fast are cable modem connections?

Many cable companies and Internet providers tout cable modems as 100 times faster than a dial-up Internet connection, or the equivalent of more than 5 mbps. That, however, is a slight exaggeration. Theoretically, it can be done. But realistically, it rarely happens for a number of technological reasons. A more accurate figure would be 1 mbps -- about 20 times faster than a 56-kbps dial-up connection.
Another note: Cable modems are typically asymmetric, meaning that download speeds are faster than upload speeds. When calculating Internet-access speeds, it's important to recognize the difference between bits and bytes. Web browsers, such as Netscape Navigator, often report download speeds in kilobytes per second (KB/s). Modems report speeds in kilobits per second (kbps). There are eight bits in each byte. What does "always on" mean?

It means that the cable modem is continuously connected to the Internet whenever your computer is turned on. When you want surf the Web, all you need to do is type in a site's address. There's no need to "dial up" an Internet service provider, as you must do with traditional telephone modems.

DOCSIS, which stands for Data Over Cable Service Interface Specification, is the North American standard for cable modem products. CableLabs, an industry technology organization, developed the DOCSIS standard to ensure that cable modem equipment built by a variety of manufacturers is compatible.
CableLabs is managing a rigorous testing process for DOCSIS cable modems. Products that pass the tests are deemed "CableLabs Certified." So far, DOCSIS modems from 12 manufacturers have won approval.
